Transcending the Boundaries…My Transnational Journey : Dance, Rhythm and Life Interaction with Dr. Menaka PP Bora

FLO Northeast organised an interactive session with Global Dance Soloist & Choreographer, Dr. Menaka P.P. Bora on May 30, 2014 at the Gauhati Club. Dr. Bora is a renowned ethnomusicologist & Recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademy Yuva Puraskar, and Wingate Scholar-Artiste at the University of Oxford.

After a short welcome address and felicitation by Chairperson, Smita Agarwal, Dr Maneka mesmerised the audience with her soft , dulcet voice, describing her journey, which started at the age of 2 years, under the tutelage of her Mother-Guru Dr Indira PP Bora , acclaimed Danseuse who worked tirelessly to get Sattriya recognised as the 8th Classical Dance form of India.

Maneka continued her training in Chennai, and then went to London, the cultural capital of the world, for research, and there she started experimenting and innovating to make Sattriya acceptable to audiences not exposed to dance, and thus create a space for Sattriya that is relevant for contemporary times.
