Sewing Machine Donation

The Rural Livelihood Vertical of FLO Chennai showcased a significant step towards promoting a circular economy while enhancing rural livelihoods on October 25th, 2024, at Wasted 360 Solutions. The initiative included the donation of two industrial sewing machines, sponsored by FLO member Ms. Neetha Asrani.

This contribution was presented to Ms. Ann Anra, the ground partner for the program, representing Wasted 360, an organisation focused on sustainability and environmental solutions. The two machines were a heavy-duty machine for repairing denim and thick materials and an overlocking machine.

FLO Chennai’s Chairperson, Ms. Divya Abhishek, along with the vertical head of Rural Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Ms. Jyothi Thomas, and Joint Treasurer Ms. Ruchita Saraogi, expressed their gratitude for the collaboration. Ms. Ruchita’s presence and engagement during the handover event were particularly appreciated, as she connected with the women involved in the initiative, bringing them joy and encouragement. The initiative emphasises the importance of creating a sustainable model that loops back to empower individuals within the community.

The partnership with Wasted 360, facilitated by Ms. Jyothi Thomas, aims to provide training and employment opportunities for women who have completed the Arpanam Aari courses. The initiative allows these trainees to practice their tailoring skills by creating outfits, bags, and pouches, thus generating income while promoting sustainability in alignment with the principles of the circular economy. The warm presence of Ms. Neetha Asrani, who also brought sweets for the members in celebration of the festive season, further reinforced the spirit of community and collaboration.
