Vocational Training Centre (VTC)

The VTC has launched a series of certified soft skill courses aimed at empowering underprivileged girls in the community from July to September. Under the leadership of FLO Chennai Chairperson, Ms. Divya Abhishek and the guidance of Ms. Nabila Avais, Chairperson of the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) and member of the FLO Chennai Handlooms and Textiles Committee.

22 young girls enrolled in Fashion Designing & Garment Making and Cookery courses, while 39 girls were engaged in Home Nursing & Geriatric Care. Another group of 36 girls participated in Nutrition & Dietetics and Calligraphy, and 37 honed their skills in Spoken English and Calligraphy. Additionally, a group of 37 girls also learned Organic Gardening and Arts & Crafts.

Upon completion of 12 structured sessions, students received printed certificates signed by the Honorary AHI Secretary, the Chairperson of the VTC, and the respective resource person, which will enhance their future employability.

On 27th July, the girls in the Fashion Designing & Garment Making course participated in an educational field trip to AIE Garment Making Factory and a Car Sale & Service Unit in Ambattur, gaining hands-on exposure to real-world business environments.

The annual event “VTC Reflections” was celebrated on August 17th, 2024 at the AHI Convention Centre, where inspiring speakers like Dr. Nandita Krishna (Author, Cultural Historian, and Environmentalist), Ms. Kausalya Santhanam (Senior Journalist & Deputy Editor of The Hindu), and Ms. Vidya Singh (Sports & Fitness Enthusiast) shared their success stories.

The event was a grand success, with 350 ice cream cones generously distributed by Arun Icecream, making the day memorable for all attendees.

Additionally, 37 students from the DACAL unit of NIIOS have been attending certified tailoring courses at the VTC, three days a week. The highly-anticipated one-year diploma in Fashion Designing & Garment Making, in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU), resumed on September 16th, 2024, providing advanced learning opportunities.

In a special session, professional therapist and counselor Ananya Parekh conducted a motivational workshop for the older girls, boosting their confidence and preparing them for future challenges.

Under the stewardship of Ms. Divya Abhishek and Ms. Nabila Avais, the VTC continues to make significant strides in empowering young women and creating a path for a brighter future for the underprivileged community.
