Chennai, 22nd August at Arpanam Trust
FLO Chennai members have initiated a program to empower women in the unorganized sector, transforming them into homepreneurs by integrating design into hand embroidery, fostering creativity, and enhancing economic opportunities.
The first session, conducted on August 22nd, 2024, at Arpanam Trust’s Vocational Training Center in Thousand Lights, was facilitated by FLO Chennai member Ms. Preeti Ganeriwala. This session, attended by 50 women and 5 teachers, along with one session facilitator and one support member, aimed to diversify skills and promote cultural creative expression, mental well-being, and community building.
The session highlighted the importance of art and design in hand embroidery, helping participants see the potential for income generation through creative avenues such as Aari design, cards, and Mehendi work. The session’s impact was evident in the enthusiastic responses from the participants, who appreciated the opportunity to enhance their skills and improve their livelihoods. A nominal professional charge was paid to Ms. Ganeriwala for materials and travel, with FLO Chennai members sponsoring the project and supporting these women on their journey to becoming homepreneurs.
FLO Chennai views this initiative as a member-driven project and encourages further participation to sustain and expand these efforts. The positive feedback and photographs from the session underscore the value of such initiatives in empowering women and fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
