Certificate training program on Mushroom Cultivation

Chennai, 4th September at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University

FLO Chennai recently conducted a certificate training program on mushroom cultivation, aimed at empowering women in self-help groups (SHGs) and generating income opportunities. The initiative was driven by a needs assessment that identified a significant demand for such training, particularly among members of the Aari hand embroidery group.

The training, held in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Guindy, was conducted by Dr. Malathi, an expert in mushroom cultivation. The program, which was sponsored by FLO members, including Chairperson Ms. Divya Abishek and her Executive Committee, was designed to enhance the skills of women in the unorganized sector. Special pricing of Rs. 750 per participant was applied to cover the certification costs.

From an initial pool of 50 candidates, 24 women were selected to participate in the training. The session included expert guidance, hands-on activities, and provided each participant with a start-up kit for mushroom cultivation. This practical approach allowed participants to apply their new skills in a real-world setting.

The women who participated in the program expressed their gratitude, particularly valuing the practical aspects of the training and the start-up kits. They felt empowered and ready to embark on their own mushroom cultivation ventures.

The success of this training program highlights the effectiveness of targeted skill development initiatives in providing valuable income generation opportunities for women in the unorganized sector.
