The “Shining Futures” initiative by FLO Kolkata under the National Jewellery Initiative program saw significant progress. Led by Rina Chakraborty, a seasoned jewellery teacher affiliated with Literary India NGO, six women from underprivileged backgrounds were selected based on their interest and need. Training sessions were held at Kindered Spirit, an NGO run by a member, where these women learned jewelry-making techniques in both Bengali and English.
The sessions lasted 4-5 hours each, allowing the participants to create their versions of bangles and earrings using locally procured materials like silk thread, bangle bases, and beads. These items are currently being produced and sampled, with plans to start sales circulation by mid-June. This initiative not only equips these women with valuable skills but also aims to provide them with sustainable income opportunities.
