FICCI FLO LUDHIANA, under the leadership of its Chairperson, Ankita Gupta, organised an event ‘Ray of Light’ with Bollywood actress, writer, poet, humanitarian and a cancer survivor “ LISA RAY” on the 18th of April, at Hotel Park Plaza, Ludhiana.
The programme started with an inaugural of a Cancer Detection Van by the celebrity guest Lisa Ray. The van is a small diagnostic unit on wheels with Mammography machine and X-ray machine with computerised radiography. Detection of cancer is an issue that India is facing, with the cancer detection rate of only 29%, which is one of the lowest in the world.
Under the Care-O-Medics Vertical, headed by Sanam Mehra, Treasurer FLO, in association with Sohana Hospital, we have launched our very own detection van on wheels wherein anyone could benefit by going through regular health check-ups and not evade getting tested from time to time.
The event progressed with an interesting and enlightening conversation with Lisa Ray, wherein Lisa interacted with the audience and shared her experiences with them. Lisa being a cancer survivor, shared how cancer changed things for her and how her journey helped others after she wrote a blog about what it’s like living with cancer.
In 2009, Ray was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable form of blood cancer. She began writing ‘The Yellow Diaries’, a blog about her experiences of having cancer. Her writing and columns have since regularly appeared in multiple major publications.
Ray remains an active advocate of stem-cell therapy and has participated in several successful fundraisers and cancer awareness campaigns.
The launch of the Detection Van encouraged members to come forward and register themselves for testing, hence encouraging them to get over their fears and providing them with a very convenient diagnostic tool.
