FICCI FLO Indore, ASIFA India, and Women in Animation (WIA) joined hands to present an exciting virtual session titled “Behind the Scenes from Avatar- The Way of Water” on April 13th, 2023. The session featured a presentation by Pavani Rao Boddapati, VFX Supervisor at Weta FX, New Zealand, who shared insights on the development of a neural network-based facial system that helped create characters in photorealistic quality on screen.
The event was a huge success with over 500 unique zoom participants and around 2000 participants from across 40+ AVGC schools and studios. The session was live-streamed due to constraints on recording, and the feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive.
Pavani Rao Boddapati’s presentation was informative and entertaining, providing a rare glimpse into the complex process of creating visual effects for a blockbuster movie. The Weta FX team’s efforts in developing the neural network-based facial system were particularly impressive, and the participants gained valuable insights into the latest technological advancements in the field of visual effects.
