FLO Kolkata had a wonderful session on Financial literacy for women on the 12th of July at Taj Bengal Kolkata.

There were imminent speakers on our panel today two of whom were women. The first one of these 2 was Meghana V Malkan, who is a Trading and performance coach and Co-founder of Malkansview,despite her non commerce background, she is helping aspiring traders to perform at their highest levels in stock trading and so in life.

ANother speaker was Priti Rathi Gupta, another woman who has interests in fields such as film making and photography but she has Led and inspired over 100,000 women towards building their financial acumen through India’s 1st financial platform for women focused on reducing the financial gender disparity in India – named after dhan ki devi – LXME.

Founder of LXME ( an app which is solely focused on educating women on financial literacy )| MD of Anand Rathi securities| Founder of Ishka films, an Alumni of Harvard Business School. She has also been Awarded for setting up the Commodities desk, Currency and Forex Advisory business with two decades of experience in the BFSI industry.

The Next Panelist was from Kolkata itself with over 600,000+ YouTube followers and 350,000 Twitter followers, Runs one of the famous stock market podcasts in India – “Face2Face” with 55 million views. Vivek Bajaj, Co-Founder of StockEdge & ELearnMarkets , Active Investor, Mentor, and Entrepreneur with over 17 years of experience in the financial market.

The event was moderated by a Non finance person, Swapnil Kothari, President of Council For Fair Business Practices, A panelist on several Super PrimeTime shows on major National Channels CNN IBN, Republic, ET Now etc. On the Board of several Fortune 500 Indian companies.

Not a very usual day when we see so many women from various fields of creativity, business, science, architecture, home science etc. listen, talk, and think about only one subject – finance!

Kavita Agarwal, a chartered accountant by profession and a community builder by passion, runs the womens community called Career After Family – aka CAFÉ. She is also on the Executive Committee of the Council For Fair Business Practices, she was also the sponsor for the event. Friends, Not too long ago in many households whenever any money matters wud be discussed, women wud have been asked to either go inside and make tea or simply said – tumhara isme koi kaam nahi.

When asked about the investment opportunities and what age can a person start investing from? Meghana commented that her kids have been investing from the age of 9 and 12. As per her there is no age and no amount to start investing. The earlier we start the faster we learn how to invest and grow our money rather than spend it.

The other interesting topic that was emphasized on by Swapnil was Inheritance Rights, which he strongly felt that every women should be aware of. n.

A fact emphasized by the women on the panel was that women are much more sincere and go deeper as opposed to men who are more impulsive. Women are better at analysing whereas men are better at Data.

It was a very informative session especially for women who are unaware on how to educate themselves and manage their finances.
