In October, 2007 the committee members of FLO- NE visited a small village near IIT- Guwahati to explore ways and means to adopt this village along with Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN). The villagers are the displaced people from the land which went under IIT- Guwahati. The village was surrounded by water on all sides with no means of commuting.
FLO- NE succeeded in adopting this village, namely Katting Pahar, and henceforth has become a pioneer in doing so. As the first step, Rs. 5000 was given to the villagers to build a culvert to connect them with the rest of the world. A total of 50 families residing in the village are benefiting from our project wherein we are imparting health and hygiene camps along with stress on education at the primary and mid-level. The students of IIT are also extending their help in the literacy programme. A vocational training with 15 boys and girls in stitching and leather works have been started together with NSIC.
