Busting Diet Myths by Rujuta Diwekar

Rujuta Diwekar, India’s renowned health and exercise science expert wowed the audience and had them in splits at the event organized for the Flo chapter in Bangalore.

She began with the question –
” What is the one thing you all need to remove from your homes immediately?”
And her answer was – ” The Weighing Scale!”

It does not determine your state of health or your level of fat or muscle.
Stand on your own feet and feel empowered as a woman not on a weighing scale.

In a nutshell, she shared her views on the following:

  1. Never count your calories – instead of enjoying your food.
  2. Do not get stuck with portion control – instead, respect the food you eat.
  3. Do not divide foods into carbs, proteins & fat – instead, eat food as a whole and the way it is to be eaten. No fad diets it is not sustainable
  4. Determine foods by the 4C’s – crop cycles, cuisine, culture & climate
  5. Dairy is not a problem so long as no harm is caused to animals.
  6. Intermittent fasting if done with the thought of doing ” Upavas” makes sense otherwise it is only just another fad.

To summarize – staying and being healthy should be the main focus rather than weight.

The precisely one-hour session with Rujuta was interspersed with witty anecdotes and lots of small gems of wisdom on giving more importance to self-worth, happiness and a positive mental attitude.
