BEHIND THE SCENE OF CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI AIRPORT, MUMBAI “Linking Art, Culture and Entertainment”

FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) organised an exclusive event – Behind the Scenes of Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai on December 3, 2018.  Members from Delhi and other Chapters participated in it.

The Mumbai airport is operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a Joint Venture between the Airports Authority of India and the GVK Industries Ltd led consortium.  It is the second busiest airport in the country in terms of total and international passenger traffic after Delhi.

It was the 14th busiest airport in Asia and 29th busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic in the calendar year 2017 handling over 47.2 million passengers. The airport has three operating terminals spread over a total land area of 750 hectares and handles about 900 aircraft movements per day and soon it is expected to handle 1000 aircraft per day.

The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to witness behind the scenes functioning of the airport.

The swanky new airport of Mumbai has  A three-kilometre long ‘art walk’ titled ‘Jaya He’, which has been built inside the T2 displaying Indian art pieces between the 8th century and 19th century –  An art collectors delight, besides the country’s tallest airport escalator at 11.6 meters.

The members were overwhelmed by the art walk which has more than 5500 artefacts, works of 100 artists and some 1000 artisans, spread across a span of 3.2 kms.

It was a privilege for the members to interact with Mr Sanjay Reddy, the man behind the success of the Airport.  The Vice Chairman of GVK EMRI and the Managing Director of Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd, Mr Reddy has been acknowledged globally as a Young Global Leader for his professional accomplishments, commitment to society and the potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world by the World Economic Forum. He has modernized the Mumbai airport without shutting it down for a single day. FLO Members were highly enthused by the energetic and enthralling story of his journey to success.
