June, 2017 – FLO Kolkata partnered with Disha Fashion Institute (affiliated to USHA International) to sponsor the course fee of twelve resource poor women keen to acquire tailoring skills. This unique project has won self-sustaining work for these women and a diploma in Sewing from Disha Fashion Institute (DFI) which also offers placements services to their fellows. This initiative has created many success stories for the participants. One such woman has invested in a machines and now works from home by accepting orders. Another participants was been successfully placed with a full-time paying job.
These women also participated in the art of applying decorative Mehendi which was a useful skill addition to their creative mindsets. Through this added skill these women were able to add an additional income during the various festive seasons where Mehendi is traditionally applied by all female members of their community.
