Sarees… Spreading Smiles: FLO Diwali Initiative 2017

This year FLO members celebrated Diwali with a Difference through the Sarees Spreading Smiles Initiative. The vision behind this initiative was to add colour, vibrance and smiles to the lives of the less privileged women around us and to not just celebrate Diwali with them but also to celebrate them for who they are!

FLO partnered with various NGOs like Can Support, Chhanv Foundation, Asha Deep Foundation & Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group, Women of Elements, Spread a Smile, TCI Foundation, Save the Children, NLR Foundation, covering causes like old age home residents, women cancer patients, acid attack survivors, mental health patients, rag pickers, leprosy patients etc.

The idea was not just to donate sarees but make them feel special and important by spending some fun, happy moments with them. FLO members personally visited each NGO, interacted with the ladies there, talked to them about various topics, sang songs, played antakshari, danced with them, dressed them up in colourful sarees, and even did their make up and make them pose for a photo shoot. While trying to spread smiles to others, our members all came back with the biggest smiles on their own faces.

The interactions were all very touching and unforgettable. FLO received a lot of appreciation and many many blessings from all those that we interacted with.

Thanks to the generosity of FLO/YFLO members, we were able to do 2700 plus distributions in the country and 13500 plus distribution across FLO Chapter Pan India. FLO Chapters who contributed to this initiative were Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, YFLO Ahmedabad, Ludhiana, Kolkata, Lucknow- Kanpur and Coimbatore.
